Best Chocolate Banana Bread
I love this recipe because it’s super quick to make, the ingredients are what you likely already have on hand and the results are always the same – deliciously moist and chocolatey banana nut bread!
Ingredients and Substitutions
All quick breads begin with standard ingredients like flour, baking powder and salt. But that’s where it ends and the creativity begins! There are so many combinations of ingredients to create delicious flavors and textures in breads like Strawberry Banana Bread or a simple and classic Banana Loaf.
BANANAS – What a great way to use up bananas that have sat just a bit too long on the counter and are too ripe to eat fresh! When you see them, either peel and toss into the freezer in a freezer bag, or just get baking and make something amazing! If you have a craving for chocolate nut bread and don’t have bananas, you can use sweet potato or pumpkin puree, or unsweetened apple sauce works too.
CHOCOLATE – Cocoa and chocolate chips combine together for double the fun in this loaf. You can always sub in dark or semi sweet chips, or try peanut butter chips for something a little different!
SUGAR – Brown sugar is the right choice for this recipe! It has a rich flavor and adds more moisture for a deliciously tender and moist loaf.
BUTTER – There is just such a delicious flavor that butter brings to recipes. But in a pinch, you can sub in vegetable oil, however use a bit less than what was called for butter.
EGGS – All great loaves need eggs because they hold everything together. I have also included mayonnaise in this recipe, (which is really oil and egg emulsified) for a rich and moist texture that you are going to love!
NUTS – Pecans are my go-to for nuts in almost all my recipes, but walnuts are a great substitute too (plus are a little cheaper!) Chopped almonds would be a crunchy and tasty alternative as well.
How To Make This Easy Chocolate Chip Banana Nut Bread Recipe
It really is super quick!
- Mash bananas. Blend in eggs, mayo, brown sugar, vanilla and butter.
- Add dry ingredients, chocolate chips and nuts. Combine but do not over mix.
- Add to a parchment lined loaf pan that has been lightly greased or sprayed with oil.
- Bake at 350ËšF for 45-50 minutes depending on your oven.
Storage Solutions!
- Cool Completely! Always allow the bread to cool completely before storing in fridge or freezer because it will sweat and may become soggy in spots.
- I like to cool my breads on the counter, covered with a tea towel. It retains a bit of moisture, but can still breathe.
- Wrap cooled bread in plastic wrap and then cover with foil. This will keep in the freezer for about 3 months.Â
- Or cut loaf into two sections and wrap with plastic wrap and then in foil. Or place in a zippered bag for long term storage. It’s the perfect size to pop out when it’s coffee time or when company pops over.
- Alternately, slice bread and place pieces of parchment paper in between each slice. This makes it easy to just grab a piece out of the freezer for a quick snack or breakfast.
How To Serve Double Chocolate Banana Bread
There really is no need to add anything to this delicious bread! However sometimes I like to spread a bit of butter on top. Or why not use a peanut butter spread to make a Double Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Sandwich, and cut into quarters to share! Chocolate and raspberry are a tasty combination, so break out the raspberry jam and give it a try!Â
Serve it for breakfast, as a mid morning snack or even an after school pick me up. Top this bread with Chocolate Peanut Butter Frosting and serve post dinner as dessert! Any time of day is perfect for this easy chocolate chip banana nut bread recipe! Â
I hope you think this is the best chocolate banana bread recipe and keep it handy. You never know when you get that chocolate craving that just won’t quit!
