Apple Crumble Pie is the apple-solute best dessert for any occasion.
Simple Ingredients
Apple Filling: The heart of this pie is a luscious apple filling made with freshly sliced apples, sugar, flour, and warm spices. I like Macintosh apples, but you can use any variety you like. Cinnamon is added to enhance the natural flavor of the fruit, and a touch of flour thickens the mixture, for a soft and juicy consistency.
Crumble Topping: The topping is super easy to make with flour, rolled oats, cold butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar. This mixture creates a golden-brown layer with a satisfying crunch.
Customize Your Crumble Top Apple Pie
Apple Varieties: Experiment with different apple varieties. Try Granny Smith for a tart flavor or Honeycrisp for a sweeter taste. Fuji are extra sweet or choose Pink Lady for a more tangy kick.
Additional Spices: Elevate the flavor by adding nutmeg, cardamom, or a sprinkle of allspice. This homemade apple pie spice makes a nice addition to this recipe.
Topping Add-Ins: For extra texture, mix in chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts. Prefer something fruity? Toss dried cranberries or raisins into the filling.
Diet-Friendly Options: Use gluten-free flour and oats for a gluten-free version, or swap in plant-based butter for a dairy-free alternative.
