Marshmallows: Use soft and fresh white marshmallows for the best results! If they are not fresh, the Rice Krispie squares can become hard. Not enjoyable.
Butter: Use the real thing here for best flavor.
Crisp Rice Cereal: Really any brand will do, but Kellogg Rice Krispies are the gold standard.
Flavoring: Vanilla is a great way to add delicious taste.
Add-Ins: Chocolate chips, chopped nuts, dried fruits or sprinkles for a fun variation.
How To Make Easy Rice Krispie Squares
- In a large non-stick pot melt butter then add marshmallows.
- Heat until just melted together, stir in vanilla.
- Add Rice Krispies. Using a buttered spoon or spatula, mix cereal into marshmallows.
- Fold into buttered pan and press.
- Cool, then slice.

Rice Krispie squares can be stored at room temperature for 2-3 days for maximum freshness. Should you need to store longer, freeze them. Wrap individually with plastic wrap, then place in a zippered bag. Freeze for about a month. Perfect for a quick grab and go snack!

Easy Rice Krispie Squares
Equipment
- large non stick pot
- 8×11 inch baking pan
Ingredients
- 50 large marshmallows
- ¼ cup butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 6 cups crisp rice cereal Rice Krispies
Instructions
- Grease a 8×11 inch pan with butter.
- In a large non stick pot, melt butter with marshmallows over medium low heat until just melted.
- Add vanilla and crisp rice cereal. Grease rubber scraper with butter, then stir mixture until Rice Krispies are well coated
- Fold mixture into prepared pan. Using butter on fingers, press Rice Krispie mixture evenly into the pan.
- Cover with plastic wrap and allow to cool completely at room temperature.
- Use a sharp knife to cut into desired sized pieces.
Notes
- Use fresh ingredients for best texture and flavor.
- Use low heat to melt marshmallows with butter.
- Grease pot and all instruments first.
- Do not press mixture into pan too hard.
- Cut squares with a sharp knife.
