Easy Chocolate Frosting

This Chocolate Frosting has the perfect combination of bitter and sweet!

Made with cocoa and sweet sugar, whipped together in a creamy and buttery frosting that is also super easy to make.

This is my absolute favorite frosting for chocolate cake and is especially decadent on brownies!

How to make Chocolate Frosting

  1. Assemble your ingredients.
  2. Combine the cocoa, sugar and butter using a stand or hand mixer.
  3. On medium low speed, slowly add the hot coffee and continue to blend. It will melt the butter while blending.
  4. Turn the speed up to medium high and whip till light and fluffy. About 5 minutes will suffice.

Why use strong coffee or espresso in Chocolate Frosting?

Coffee brings out the flavor of chocolate. Try adding a bit of powdered espresso it to your next chocolate cake and see how good it is! You will find it to be a bolder, deeper chocolate flavor.

While this recipe calls for coffee, if you really do not care for it you can simply use warm milk or cream, or even boiled water, in place of the coffee.

This easy chocolate frosting is smooth, creamy and hard to resist!

Equipment

Ingredients
  

  • 1 ¼ cup icing sugar or powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup cocoa
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons hot coffee or espresso

Instructions
 

  • Blend the icing sugar, cocoa and butter together with a hand or stand mixer.
  • Add the hot coffee a small amount at a time and continue to blend until smooth and creamy. You may need to add a bit more coffee if it is too thick.
  • Spread or pipe onto your favorite cake, cupcake or brownie.
