Quick And Easy Dessert!
Thank you to my sister in law, Shawna for sharing this recipe! She is definitely a busy gal and often has to feed a hungry crew, so she relies on fast, easy and tasty recipes like this one.
Ingredients
- Cake dry ingredients: Cocoa, flour, baking powder, salt, brown sugar, and white sugar are all handy pantry ingredients you likely have on hand.
- Liquid Ingredients: Butter and milk provide moisture and delicious flavor to the cake and the pudding. The boiling water is poured over the top and sinks to the bottom while cooking to create the delicious pudding.
- Topping: Brown sugar and cocoa create a sweet topping.
Variations
Experiment by adding in chocolate chips, chopped pecans or walnuts, and try pouring over hot coffee instead of boiled water.
Top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or even a sprinkle of coconut flakes.
How do I make Pudding Cake?

- Assemble the dry ingredients.
- In a small bowl combine the topping ingredients.
- Melt butter, add milk and vanilla. Mix into dry ingredients to make a thick batter. Turn into baking dish and sprinkle with the topping.
- Pour boiling water over and bake.
Can you double this Pudding Cake Recipe?
Absolutely double this recipe! I find this recipe alone is plenty for my family of 5, but if you want to enjoy leftovers or if you have company, then you will definitely need to make more!
You will need a larger baking dish to double the recipe but the baking time should be the same.
Use a deep baking dish for best results. If it is too shallow, the cake may over cook and you will loose the pudding base. It is best to err on the side of being underdone, than overdone!
I hope you have success making this old fashioned chocolate pudding cake recipe! I believe this is one of the easiest and tastiest recipes I have made!
