I just love Chocolate! While fruit desserts can be super tasty, I tend to lean towards anything chocolate. There are so many delicious things you can do with chocolate like a super simple Homemade Chocolate Sauce or even quick and easy No Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies. Whatever your fancy, you won’t go wrong choosing a chocolate dessert treat.
While there are many recipes for homemade chocolate pie where everything is made from scratch, this recipe definitely cuts corners! The pre-made crust, the pudding mix and the cool whip all make this chocolate pie recipe super simple! And you can transfer the pre made crust to your own pie plate to make it look like you made this pie completely from scratch, no need to give away our secret!
I have jacked up this chocolate pie a bit with the addition of melted unsweetened chocolate as well as a bit of sour cream. I like how the sour cream makes it extra creamy and the unsweetened chocolate makes this pie filling not too sweet. If you prefer to use sweetened chocolate, please do so. And if you do not have sour cream, simply substitute with cream or just milk.
How to make Easy Chocolate Pie
Using a pre-made crust, instant pudding mix and cool whip makes this Chocolate Pie one of the easiest desserts you can whip up!
- Mix the pudding mix with the milk and sour cream.
- In a medium bowl, melt the chocolate with butter and a bit of milk on half power in the microwave till smooth.
- Gradually mix 2 cups of the pudding mixture into the melted chocolate and blend with beaters, adding 1/2 cup at a time.
- Once blended, add this mixture back into the rest of the pudding mixture and blend just till smooth.
- Fold in the cool whip, then turn into prepared pie crust. Garnish as desired.
- Refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.
What Can I Use To Garnish This Chocolate Pie?
- I like to pipe cool whip around the edges of my pie and then shave chocolate on top.
- If you have piping bags for the cool whip, great! If not, you can simply cut the corner of a zippered bag and insert a Wilton 1M tip.
- If you don’t have the proper tip, you can just cut the corner of the bag and simply pipe it from there.
- Other great options for garnish are:
- chopped nuts
- coconut
- chopped seasonal colored chocolates such as mini eggs or M&M’s.
I hope you have success making this Easy Chocolate Pie. I am sure your family will love it as much as mine does!
