What kind of apples should I use in this recipe?

I love to use Macintosh apples in these bars because when cooked they are so soft. But if you prefer a more firm apple choose Ambrosia or Gala apples.

How do you store Apple Oatmeal Squares?

In all situations, store in an airtight container.

  • 1-2 days on the counter.
  • 1 week in the refrigerator.
  • 3 months in the freezer.

This of course only applies if your family does not eat them all first!

What substitutions can you make to this Apple Oatmeal Squares recipe?

I love to make recipes ‘unique’ by making substitutions and this recipe is no different!

  • I love to add nuts! You can add pecans or walnuts to either the base and topping, or to the apples – or to all three!
  • Add more cinnamon and nutmeg to your taste.
  • Coconut is a super addition, but I would suggest adding it just to the base.
  • Add other fruit! I love fruit combinations like apples and rhubarb or strawberries and rhubarb. This would also be wonderful using peaches or blueberries in place of apples. Just use your imagination or whatever fruit you have on hand.
