Apple Grape Salad Variations

  • Fruit – I love to use MacIntosh apples for this salad, however any of your favorite varieties will work. Ambrosia or Gala apples are firm and delicious used here. Also, use seedless grapes, red or green will work equally well!
  • Nuts – Pecans are the nut of choice, but you can use walnuts as well. Whatever your preference!
  • Whipped Cream – I purchase whipping cream and whip it myself. It is just so easy to do and the taste is second to none. Add more or less powdered sugar depending on how sweet you like it.
  • Flavoring -The maple flavoring is essential to this recipe. While vanilla will work, maple flavoring is just so much better!

Recipe Tips

  • Cool your bowl and mixing paddles before whipping the cream. This will help it to whip it up faster. Be sure to refrigerate while cutting the fruit.
  • If you don’t have a large crew to help cut up your fruit, begin with the grapes, then chop the nuts and finally chop the apples. You want to leave the apples for last to ensure they don’t turn brown.
  • Immediately toss the fruit with the whipped cream as this will prevent the apples from browning.
  • Make lots! Everyone loves this salad and it goes fast! My family loves to eat this fruit salad the next day at breakfast, so leftovers are a must!
  • No maple flavoring? No problem. Subsitute the maple flavoring and the powdered sugar with 1-2 Tablespoons, or to taste, pure maple syrup.
